Once upon a time, there was a sextoy company known far and wide for their passionate dedication to giving their customers as much of a pleasurable experience as possible.
Then one day, they realized that while their popular sleeve masturbator remains as popular as ever, to stay true to their boundary-pushing, customer-satisfying reputation, they had to do more.
And so, with their recently released Calor, a “Depth-Controlled Heating Male Masturbator,” Lovense has brought a sexual fairy tale to life for people with penises—and may have given us a truly legendary sextoy in the process.
What is Lovense’s Calor?
Your average, run-of-the-mill sleeve toy typically delivers one or, on rare occasions, two or three different sensations.
Even Lovense’s justifiably admired and oh-so-sexually-satisfying Max 2’s (1) contractions and (2) strokes fall into this category.
That, when you think about it, is perfectly reasonable considering how sextech manufacturers have such a small amount of space to work with, particularly when you factor in motors, gearing mechanisms, batteries, sextech smart electronics, and a passel of other engineering headaches.
This makes Lovense’s Calor all the more impressive as they’ve somehow managed to fit all of that into a less and seven-inch-long case—and vibrates, and is squeezable, and is heated, and senses how it’s being used and adjusts itself accordingly.
And because of all this and more, the Calor is an honestly awesome sextoy: one that’s so good, so pleasurable, and so impressive it might very well be their best masturbator—and maybe the best available today.
What Lovense’s Calor has going for it
One of the Calor’s many selling points is its set of three internal sensors, which, as each is tripped depending on how much of themselves a user is putting into it and how fast, automatically increase or decrease its vibrations.
Additionally, these sensors serve double duty by using this same data, in conjunction with the Lovense Remote app, to set up a responsive feedback loop between a Calor and other Lovense toys such as the Max 2, Nora, and their other toys.
I immediately noticed about the Calor how, unlike sleeve toys like the Max 2, its motors don’t do the contracting.
Its vibrations? Sure, but when it comes to tightening or loosening, that’s literally in the hands of the user as due to its soft construction, it’s remarkably easy and comfortable to squeeze.
Though I was initially skeptical and, I hate to admit it, though this was probably a big misstep on Lovense’s part, I was immediately converted.
Admitting this is more than likely a personal preference sort of thing, but I’ve never been fond of how mechanical sleeve masturbators often feel—to where I have a tough time shaking the image of having my (ahem) appendage worked over by a clashing set of gears and drive-chains.
Not with the Calor, however. If anything, it was like Masturbation 2.0: taking a familiar and already immensely pleasurable sexual activity to the next level.
And it has another trick up its pleasurable sleeve; its “open-ended” design—so if you or whoever you’re using it with happens to be somewhat lengthy, there’s zero risk they won’t fit into it.
Plus, it allows for really long strokes—yet another drawback I’ve experienced when fooling around with other sleeve masturbators.
Combine all of this with the Calor’s sensors, the option to gently heat it up, it’s completely waterproof, how you can connect it to other Lovense toys, is interactable with special adult videos and games—such as Wild Life and Mirror Life—and additional enticing bonuses and you can see why I’m so excited about it.
Operating Lovense’s Calor
Operating the Calor is spectacularly easy. To switch it on, merely press the larger, lower button—which is what you also use to put it into Bluetooth standby mode or, after connecting it to a power supply and holding it down for a few seconds, will make it nice and toasty.
Above it is the toy’s second button, which is used to turn on or off its sensors as well as cycle through its three power levels and four preset vibration patterns.
All well and good, but for an improved experience—and use it for interactive pleasuring—you’ve got to use it with Lovense Remote. Thankfully, compliments of its fairly recent upgrade, this is far from challenging.
Begin by putting the Calor into standby mode, open the Android, iPhone, or desktop version of the app, tap the little plus sign, and before you know it, you can fine-tune its vibrations, link to other smart sextoys, enjoy interactive videos, and games, have it respond to music or any bedroom noises you might make … the list goes on and on.
Care and feeding of Lovense’s Calor
Charging the Calor is done via its provided magnetic charging cable and whatever USB power source you have handy.
It’ll take around one and a half hours to fully charge the Calor for the same amount of playtime. Or up to half an hour longer than that if you play your cards right.
One more BIG point in its favor is cleaning up afterward. As in how uncomplicated and undemanding it all is. “Uncomplicated” because there’s nothing to remove and then struggle to replace and “undemanding” due to its waterproofness, so it’s just warm water, sextoy cleaner, or a tiny amount of antibacterial soap, rinse, repeat, and dry with a lint-free towel or cloth.
Waterproofness also makes it a fantastic bath or shower time toy and if you like your self-pleasuring really slippery, you can pour as much as you want onto yourself or into it—steering clear, of course, from any lubes which might damage silicone sextoys like the Calor.
How big is Lovense’s Calor?
The Calor is 6.26 inches (159 millimeters) long, 2.76 (70 mm) in diameter—with its insertable portion at 6.02 inches in length and, as it’s somewhat oval-shaped, 1.79 (45.5 mm) by 1.18 (30 mm).
What comes with a Lovense Calor?
Not including the masturbator or the aforementioned magnetic charging cable, a Calor comes with a storage bag, a comprehensive User Manual, and a briefer Quick Start Guide—with both documents also available on the Lovense site.
Like every other toy they sell, the Calor’s packaging is excellent: durable, well-fitting, and ideal for keeping it lint and dust-free even if you don’t want to use the storage bag.
Calor and Lovense Remote
I apologize if you’re getting tired of me constantly crowing about how good the Lovense Remote app is.
Let’s face facts, with a few very rare exceptions when it comes to the software side of things, most so-called sextech companies have been rather, shall I say, lax when it comes to giving us a frustration-free, well-thought-out interface or an interactive-option-packed experience.
But not Lovense, as time and again they’ve shown they care as much about their software as they do hardware, giving us with their smoothed, polished, intuitive, and powerful Remote app what others can only hope of someday emulating.
Alas, the downside is when compared with other apps and programs for all its groundbreaking features, the Lovense Remote app—be it the PC, Apple computer, iPhone, or Android version—isn’t as supported by a majority of interactive adult sites or games.
Or, I should say, is what the situation used to be since recently Lovense announced a partnership with the mega-huge SexLifeReal site so it’ll work with their app—and therefore many of their toys.
It may not come close to having universal support and other apps are still more widely supported. Still, it’s a step in the right direction.
Pros:
- A great array of features: heating, flexibility, depth responsive sensors, and seamless sextech integration
- Amazing easy to clean and maintain
- Extremely responsive and pleasing to use
- Comfortable whatever the user’s length
- Portable size
- Perfect for teledildonic play
Cons:
- May not be ideal for people who prefer a hands-off experience
- Lack of adult entertainment support
The verdict
Okay, here we go—and I promise not to round things up with any more fairy tale metaphors.
Though I’d be lying if I didn’t say I thought Lovense’s Calor was the happy ever after sextoy of my (wet) dreams—and could be yours, as well, if like me you prefer to take your masturbatory pleasures in hand rather than lay back and let a toy do all the work.
Which is a great segway into why it may or may not rock your world. Composing my notes for this review, I found myself pondering an interesting question: due to the growing number of powered sleeve masturbators, will people eventually become used to and so prefer them over the non-motorized variety?
Then how—particularly for those new to the technology—hands-off sextoys might be too hands-off, therefore too unfamiliar, to be pleasurable.
Navel-gazing aside, I believe Lovense’s Calor is an absolutely amazing sextoy—and If you or the folx you play with have a penis, it’s a must-have.
Even if you prefer a hands-off sleeve masturbator, as though it requires manual effort to experience many of its innumerable pleasures, it does so in such new and satisfying ways it’ll no doubt excite everyone sporting a penis.
So I enthusiastically slip a glass slipper onto Lovense’s corporate foot while spinning their straw into gold and slaying whatever dragons were plaguing their sextech kingdom as playing with their Calor, “depth-controlled heating male masturbator” is a sure-fire happily ever after.
